The Chair

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

So in the previous post green with envy or is it just the cording, I posted a photo of a chair I slipped for a client.  This particular chair I have coveted ever since I completed.  My husband and I combed craigslist for what seemed like years to find a chair similar in style and shape.  The above is what we were able to come up with and we love it!! It is a Federal Period Wing Chair circa late 1700's.  The chair measures in at 46" tall and 32" wide, you would never think finding a chair taller than 43" would be so hard until you try to locate one for yourself!
This is the room where our new chair will reside.  It is the first room you see upon entering our home.
Gotta love our empty bookcases ...lol!

Above is a photo of the fabric we are going to slip the chair in.  I just love how great it looks next to our area rug  This project is going to be a bit of a challenge as I will need to fill in all the spaces formed by the channel back upholstery.

What's the best thing you've scored on Craigslist?

Everyone Loves an Irish Kid

Thursday, March 17, 2011

I don't know about you but when I became a mother I had all these high expectations for myself.  I had a list of projects I was going to do annually for my kids, a St. Patricks Day dress being one of those items.  Well the bean is now 2 and we have celebrated 3 St. Patty's Day and I've only made one dress.  Last year I bought the cutest holiday  fabric, but ran out of time.  This year I had plenty of time but could not find the fabric I had already purchased and I was adamant I was not buying more St. Patricks' Day themed fabric.  Well the St. Patty's Day 2011 has come and gone and the search continues for my fabric.  Hopefully I will find it in time to make her a dress for next year!

Leave me a comment, I'd love to know what are some of your ideas that have been left undone?

Green With Envy (Or Is It Just The Cording)

Monday, March 14, 2011

Have you ever completed a project for a client and thought, "Geez I wish that was mine!"  Such was the case with this chair.  Even before I slipped it I was in love with the shape of the piece.  It is a large chair with graceful lines that seems to swallow you up when you sit in it ... I LOVED it!  I was in such despair when I delivered it to the client; I thought I will never find a chair this great for myself.  Good news it took over two years of combing craigslist daily and scouring antique markets but I was able to find myself a similar style chair.  Check back later and to see the pics of my new chair which is in need of a little love) and hear the story behind this truly fabulous find :)

Leave me a note I’d love to hear about your hard to part with projects!

A Family Heirloom

Monday, March 7, 2011

I have been creating keepsake garments for little ones now for almost seven years.  So you can only imagine how I felt when I found out I was having a baby girl.  Ask anyone I love having a son, but you can only sew things for your little boy for so long before it becomes odd.  While I was pregnant with my daughter I used to spend my days dreaming about making an over the top Christening gown.  I was so excited that I finally had the opportunity to create such a gown for my own child!
I have always been a big fan of Martha Pullen and all her knowledge of heirloom techniques.  This dress combines one of her dress designs along with some of my own special details, which I added to make the dress more a reflection of my own personal taste/style.
I am so happy that I had the opportunity to create such an elaborate gown.  I can imagine her as a grown woman holding it and thinking about how I stayed up late at night when she was a just a newborn to create a special garment for her blessing day.

The Beans' Brother Turns 7

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Big brother turns 7 and it was Mad Scientist celebration.  I really wanted to keep this party easy in other words the less work for me the better.  We ordered our party kit from steve spangler science.  I can not say enough about this company.  They are awesome!  They actually sent a personalized hand written note to my son ... awesome customer service!  They kit even included items for the kids to take
home so the science fun could continue after the party was over.

We ordered lab coats for all the children who attended and my son meet them at the door lab coat in hand.  At this point they were ushered off to the "lab" where we made each child over into a Mad Scientist.  We gave them crazy hair and they all picked out their own Mad Scientist name.  I was surprised by how excited the kids were to be transformed into their new persona.

We ordered our cake and cookie favors from The Sweet Shop. I am the worst cook and have been known to set my oven on fire in the past ... lol!

Be sure to check out the video of the final experiment!  All the boys had a great time and little sister too.
